The Wound Care Certificate Program focuses on evidence-based practices for the prevention, assessment, and management of wounds, with an emphasis on promoting optimal healing and improving the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of residents in skilled nursing facilities.

Intended Audience:
This course is intended for healthcare professionals working in skilled nursing, long-term care, acute, home care or rehabilitative settings who are involved in the care and management of patients with wounds.
Ideal participants include Wound Care Coordinators, and other clinical team members seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in wound prevention, assessment, and treatment. The program is also suitable for those preparing to take on specialized wound care roles within their facility.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Describe the principles of wound healing, including the phases of wound repair and factors that affect healing in older adults and chronically ill populations.

Identify and differentiate types of wounds, such as pressure injuries, diabetic ulcers, arterial and venous ulcers, and surgical wounds.

Perform accurate wound assessment, including staging pressure injuries, measuring wounds, documenting characteristics, and recognizing signs of infection or complications.

Apply evidence-based wound care interventions, including dressing selection, cleansing techniques, debridement options, and pain management.

Implement wound prevention strategies, including risk assessments (e.g., Braden Scale), turning/repositioning protocols, and skin care best practices.

Passing Requirements
To successfully complete the Wound Care Certificate Program and receive a certificate of completion, participants must meet the following requirements:
Attendance:
- Attend all scheduled live sessions, or Complete all video modules if enrolled in the self-paced version.
Post-Test:

Complete a 50-question post-test at the end of the course. Participants are allowed two attempts to pass.
A minimum score of 80% is required to pass.
Certification Validity:
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Wound Care Certificate valid for two (2) years from the date of issue.
This certification demonstrates foundational competency in wound care principles and supports professional development in skilled nursing and long-term care settings.
